The El Águila exhibition space is part of a set of buildings devoted to cultural use which currently house the Madrid Regional Archive and Joaquín Leguina library. The whole complex once belonged to the former El Águila beer factory, which was started in 1912-1914 following a design by architect Luis Sáinz de los Terreros, using Neo-Mudéjar style brickwork, with Anglo-Saxon touches. Architects Emilio Tuñón Álvarez and Luis Moreno García-Mansilla restored the building and designed this exhibition gallery whose programme focuses on the latest in visual art.
