The National Museum of Romanticism is a house museum that recreates the upper bourgeoisie lifestyle during the reign of Isabel II (1830-1868). It was founded by the Marquis of Vega Inclán and is based in the palace of the Marquis and Marchioness of Matallana, built in the centre of Madrid in 1776.
As you walk through the twenty-six rooms, you can find out what they were used for, the various family roles, social habits, everyday life and the fashions and tastes of Spanish Romanticism. You can also enjoy the museum's wide range of collections, including paintings, furniture, decorative arts, prints, drawings and photography.
